Paymon
Previous: The Southern Court
PAYMON is Queen of the West wind, and of the Western court. She rides a camel in a great retinue of spirits, all playing cymbals and trumpets. She is dressed for battle, but wears a bright, beautiful crown.
When she appears, she makes a great roaring cry which can be difficult to understand, but if you ask her to communicate plainly and distinctly by writing on a piece of paper, she will do so, and will proceed to teach philosophy, science, and all other secret things.
If she helps you, always make her an offering.
She teaches on matters relating to the nature and shaping of the world. She has knowledge of all the arts, and can create magical objects.
She knows the nature of all things underground, and of all things in the water, whose creatures she has power over.
She knows what the Earth is, and what holds it up in the water.
She knows the nature of the Abyss.
She knows what the wind is, and where it comes from.
She knows what the mind is, and where it is.
She is the Queen of women.
Petition Paymon for the love of a woman. She also grants dignities, influence, and confirmations.
She provides good familiars. In her retinue are spirits in the order of Angels, and in the order of Potentates. Paymon herself was in the order of Dominations, or of Cherubim.*
Paymon can grant authority over others, making her valuable for those seeking to gain influence or leadership. She is known to provide insight into future events, enhancing one's ability to foresee and understand the implications of current actions. She can also inspire creativity and artistry, particularly in music, literature, and in the occult.
Paymon appreciates rituals that show respect and reverence. Practitioners often suggest invoking her with a sincere attitude and with proper decorum. Common offerings include:
Incense, especially frankincense and myrrh.
Wine or alcoholic beverages.
Foods such as cakes, fruits, sweets, and rare spices.
Candles and lights: Bright lights are associated with her, symbolizing knowledge and illumination.
Items representing authority and dominion, such as crowns or scepters, may also be pleasing.
Paymon is associated with the West, so aligning your ritual to this direction can enhance its effectiveness. Workings are best done on a Friday.
When working with Paymon, practitioners emphasize the importance of conducting rituals carefully, as her retinue includes many spirits, some of whom can behave mischievously. Disregarding ritual conventions or treating the invocation casually can lead to unfavorable results.
It is customary to allow Paymon to ask questions or make requests during the ritual. This shows respect for her status, and can help build rapport. Sensory phenomena, such as loud noises, increased temperature, and heightened energy, may be felt during rituals. Ignoring these signs can cause the ritual to go off course.
Offering items that are considered lowly or unworthy can offend her. Negative energy, impure intentions, or a demanding tone during rituals may invoke her wrath. Practitioners recommend preparing specific, meaningful questions beforehand, since Paymon appreciates intellectual pursuits and serious inquiries about arts, sciences, and esoteric knowledge. She is known to be regal and commanding, but many have also experienced her as jovial and playful. She is associated with teaching self-discipline, and with fostering personal growth by encouraging introspection rather than giving easy answers.
Practitioners report experiencing strong sensations, vivid dreams, or visions during rituals invoking Paymon. Many claim heightened intuition or clarity of thought when working with her. Some report unusual psychic phenomena or encounters with other spirits during invocations.
*The Dominations inspire human leaders to act justly and with humility. They encourage people to align with their true calling, and are often invoked for help with life-altering decisions. The Cherubim guard sacred spaces and sacred knowledge. They occasionally reveal divine mysteries through dreams and visions.
